Last year these days i was preparing dinner with my friends and get ready for the night with my friends. It feels like it was all a dream when i think about Erasmus programme now. But for sure it wasn’t and was definitely the best summer i had in my life. I am senior industrial engineering student. I applied Extramus without work experience.
My schedule was basically going to work, joking around with my co workers, working, waving to the cars passing by that always risk crashing. They just to take a look to these strange Erasmus students taking a break in front of the Extramus.
When finally all is done, we get ready , prepare our drinks and head to the pub for the event that is waiting for us. I must admitt i was so surprised to see the busy schedule of Terranova filled with so many concerts, different events. We even had a beauty pageant and a cosplay/anime event. And for sure allowed us all to enjoy our summer to the fullest.
I was one of those people who would go out every night. Even just for a walk and talk. I can say it was one of the people who spent their time to the fullest.
On quiet nights we would go to the football pitch and hang out there. We watch the matches , throw parties with our friends from the office, or hang out with the local people. I can say the local people were all so friendly and open for inetraction. We would go out to near towns and to the sea, parties with the local friends i made there. I even befriended the local crazy man Cicco and i warn you don’t be afraid of him he is the sweetest. He probably just wants to know if you like Italy.
Our office hours would be relaitvely quiet yet still enjoyable even though there is not much to do in the morning we would have fun with my friends with little games we create.
One of the most memorable day for me was definitely the cultural night party the locals threw for us. A lovely family hosted us in their country house for an unforgettable night. Each of us prepared food which most them were traditional, and shared them with other guests. They were so hospitable and interested in us, trying to create the best environment for us to engage with them and other local guests.
When we take a break and sit in front of the office, me and my friend Anouar would watch the passing cars and create stories for them. We were waiting to see if they will stare at us or salute us. We would visit the local coffee shop , grab something to eat and chat.
I can boldly say i had the most fun there. Tried to dance with everyone, presented my dish which was mercimek kötfesi, ate, drank, sang and got the best of the night.
But i cannot deny the energy and welcoming atmosphere they provided for us gave me the courage to be myself and enjoy my time and i could see the satisfaction and joy on all of my friends faces. It was such a crazy night we found ourselves soaking wet playing like children in the tiny pool backyard.
Another day that’s hard to forget for me is the night we had the Miss Terranova night. We were all so excited and had no idea what to expect from the contest. We took our places at the pub waiting for the show to start
It was so fun to experience the athmosphere of a contest with all the beautiful girls , concerts and dance shows between takes.
Whole town was there and people were even watching it from their Windows. After this we had also a dog contest. I don’t think i need to eloborate more i think it speaks for itself. I mean it’s a DOG CONTEST! So many cute dogs in one place. And it’s needles to say we used every opporunity to pet them.
It’s really hard to tell everything i experienced because it is really way too much. I think i will let the photos i took talk on behalf of me .I can’t even choose one since all of them are so valuable to me. The friendships i made there, the culture, life i got to experience are not to forget easily.
I feel so lucky and happy to be able to share a period of my life with the people i met there . They made me feel like i’ m one of them. Even a simple walk at night was so memorable thanks to them. They all tried their best to show us their life and interests, to give us a chance to spend our time there to the fullest.
