My Erasmus Story: IT Work and Discover -

A guy who lived in modern cities, surrounded by skyscrapers and fast-paced living, being granted the chance to experience a complete polar opposite lifestyle for three months., did he take it? YES, he did!

So the story starts like this, just a week before my scheduled start date at Extramus, I was not sure if I should really accept the offer and experience something new completely out of my comfort zone. But I made the choice and its nearly a month and I’m glad to say that it was one of the best decisions which I took this year. Since this is my second Erasmus, I made sure not to repeat the same experience but something different which will certainly give me more new opportunities and memories

It was a pretty sunny day on July 1,2023 when I took a flight from Warsaw Modlin to Giovan Battista Pastine airport, the ride was short and a smooth one considering Ryan air’s reputation. Observing the Roman architecture and picturesque landscapes of the city during the ride from the airport to the city centre left me in awe.

As a geek of history and medieval fantasy I couldn’t believe that I was right in the city where once the mighty Roman empire once stood tall. But that excitement didn’t last long as the metro from Rome Termini to Rome Tiburtina wasn’t the pleasant one.

The bus ride from the northern part to the central part of Italy was exciting one as I got to see all the landscapes and the vegetation the county had to provide. I was then greeted by Francesco at Bivio Cantinella along with his girlfriend, who shared the joyous news of their future parenthood. Throughout the ride, their excitement was felt while listening to them and by the way he drove.

Next morning, first thing which prompted my mind like every other intern who arrived at Terranova Da Sibari was “How will I survive this place for the next three months”, But it didn’t take me too long to realize the true beauty of this city which is its local people and not the buildings nor attractions.

In these given days I formed bonds with nearly everyone in the office including our CEO Antonio and most of us hangout almost every single day after work either at the Park and plan for the weekend or grab a gelato. Among the highlights were cooking Biriyani for fifteen fellow peers, an event that brought us all closer together, and a memorable trip to Paola, despite the scorching sun, where we soaked in the local culture and traditions.

One particular night stands out vividly in my mind, an Italian bride was celebrating her bachelorette party with a lively karaoke night at the Castle bar. A group of around 10 friends, including me, happened to be at the bar for a casual beer, and we soon joined in the festivities, turning it into a joyous and unforgettable evening of fun.

Terranova Da Sibari may not boast towering skyscrapers or flashy attractions, but it offered something far more valuable the opportunity to connect with people, explore new cultures, and embrace life in its simplicity. Besides of these advantages I catched chance to do an IT internship in Italy. Also last year I attended Erasmus learning mobility and I feel lucky to have second chance to attend Erasmus programme.

I am filled with gratitude for this transformative experience. It has taught me that stepping out of one’s comfort zone is the key to growth and self-discovery. The memories I’ve created, the friendships I’ve forged, and the lessons I’ve learned till now will undoubtedly stay with me for a lifetime.
