Ciao! I am Melis! As we know and heard about Italy, there are lots of cities, food, and regions that are mentioned as famous in Italy. After I arrived at Terranova, there was a long holiday, so I planned to trip to Sicily. In this blog, I will mention about it.
Messina
I took a ferry to arrive in Messina. It was amazing to experience that ferry adventure. It was almost sunset time. After arrived in Messina, I went to a local restaurant, the pizza was amazing there. So, if you go to Messina, I recommend you go to that restaurant which is called “Fratelli la Bufala”, I also tried a local beer called “Birrificio Angelo Poretti”, the taste was amazing together.

After that night, I walked to the tourist places, there was a huge church “Piazza Duomo”, there was a sound animation outside of the church, also there were lots of people. Then I walked to Piazza Unione Europea and Piazza dell’Unita d’Italia. Messina was a small beachside place and If I had a chance, I’d like to go there again.
Taormina
When I arrived in Taormina, I was amazed at the historical places and sea. To the old town, I took a bus, and I went to the up. There was also an astonishing view up, I could see the sea from above and historical buildings. There was a Street with lots of local stores and food places. There were some small and tight streets with stairs. I went to a famous beach island called “Isola Bella”. I realized why they gave the name Isola Bella because the island was so good, I swam while seeing the old town and green areas. Taormina also was an amazing experience for me.
Catania
I had the most unforgettable memories in Catania. First of all, architecture thing was very different from Taormina and Messina. Catania is the second big city in Sicily, and you can recognize that Catania looks like a big city. There was a big elephant statue which is the symbol of Catania between Catania Cathedral and Piazza del Duomo. I was surprised to learn that some Italian authors and artists from Catania such as Vincenzo Bellini, and Luigi Capuano. For me, the inspiration for this city was perfect.
You can lose yourself while walking in the Street of Catania. The biggest experience in Catania was going to Etna Mountain, I was there the day the volcano erupted. There were some sounds and ashes from the Etna. Etna is a splendid and huge mountain. I was so lucky to have a chance to see it that day. Etna’s petrified lava was visible on the city streets the next day. Catania has amazed me in every way!
Palermo
Palermo is the biggest city in Catania. It was a city with lots of history and with lots of long palm trees. It was very good to taste arancini (typical Sicilian food) while watching the view of Palermo. I went to a bazaar and there were lots of types of Sicilian food also sea food, fruits. It was a pleasure to taste Mediterranean cuisine! people and vendors were very friendly in Palermo.
